Thank you to everyone who attended, testified, and participated in today’s hearing on Boston’s LGBTQ+ youth community spaces. These spaces are crucial in addressing the mental health challenges faced by LGBTQ+ youth due continual and growing exposure to social and political hostility, discrimination and bullying.

Today, we had the honor of celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with the incredible students of the John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics & Science in Roxbury! The event was a vibrant display of culture, talent, and community spirit.

Congratulations to Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) on the grand opening of the new Johnson Community Center in Mission Hill

We were thrilled to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony and had the opportunity to explore the remarkable new facility at the Josiah Quincy Upper School in Chinatown. It’s a truly impressive space, designed with incredible features that will undoubtedly foster an enriching environment for learning and growth.

Delighted to have spent an evening with the vibrant Bowdoin-Geneva community, alongside the Cape Verdean Association of Boston! UNITY days are a special opportunity to listen to neighbors, engage with local resource groups and celebrate the spirit of togetherness that makes this community so special.

Continuing our visits this morning at Tobin School in Mission Hill, we connected with local advocate Leon Rivera to discuss pedestrian safety & ways to enhance family safety in the area. We also had the chance to catch up with Caitlin Gaffey, who taught when I attended Tobin!

We had the pleasure of visiting the STRIVE extended school year program at Madison Park Technical Vocational High School this week and were truly inspired by the dedication and support offered to the students.

Today we welcomed Girl Scouts from South Boston to City Council chambers thanks to South Boston Liaison, Lydia Polaski! Each of the City Council members welcomed them to the chamber and they were able to gain insight into the inner workings of our Budget Working Sessions.

Thank you to the Girl Scouts for visiting and enriching our discussions with your enthusiasm and questions.

Today, we met with students from Josiah Quincy Upper School to discuss the role of a City Councilor and how the City Council functions to serve its constituents. Students circulated around the room, brainstorming on three key topics: what they would prioritize as a City Councilor, how they envision improving their community, and which resources they would expand or make available to other schools.

This year we have the privilege of celebrating the academic achievements of 32 incredible young people at the 25th annual Boston Public Schools Valedictorian Luncheon at Fenway Park.

Together with Councilors Flynn and Murphy, we had a productive discussion with students from Excel High School about various quality of life issues related to their education and explored ways in which the City Council can help improve their learning environment and overall experience.
